Bali

I am going here for a family vacation in October to celebrate my brothers, and my birthdays! I am super excited since it’s been so long since last time we all went somewhere new for a vacation since we all have different schedules. The pictures above are of the villa in which we will be staying, and I am so excited to be there since, it looks beautiful! There will definitely come a video of my trip there after I go.

New York

New York is a place where I have only been to once, which feels like ages ago since I was in third grade at the time. I was there for New Years with my family but one of my brothers didn’t want to go… I remember how much I loved the shopping, haha. However, I am sure I would enjoy it even more now that I know most of the shops there better. I hope to travel there soon again.

Los Angeles

The last destination is somewhere I have always wanted to go. I could totally imagine myself walking down Rodeo Drive, and just feeling relaxed. Having the beach near, and being able to hike up to gorgeous views. I have a dream of going there sometime with my friends or family, it seems so dreamy. For those of you who are American, or live there, I probably sound ridiculous but consider this all for a typical Swede’s viewpoint… There is nothing better than a place where it is hot, haha (at least for me).

Picnic Do’s and Don’t’s

img_6037img_6038img_6040img_6036

Hey guys!

One thing I love about Sweden is how simple life can be when it comes to organizing what to do. Just grabbing a picnic and sitting in a park, and that is what I really miss here in Japan. Well, many countries have the easy accessibility to a park to have picnic by without tons of people there, so I thought I would share some ideas of what to bring, and Do’s and Don’t’s.

Picnic Favorites:

  • Sandwich
  • Pasta salad
  • Donut
  • Cookies
  • Juice box
  • Typical summer soda

Do’s and Don’t’s

  • Do bring your friends who you can talk to
  • Don’t forget a blanket
  • Do bring dessert
  • Don’t go to a park where there are lots of people
  • Do clean up after you
  • Don’t wear your fanciest clothes
  • Do relax and just talk a bit
  • Don’t go if it’s raining (obvious kind of)

Anyways, I hope you like some of my tips although they are quite obvious. Also, have a great day, and hope you go out for a picnic sometime.

How to Cure Being Homesick

Homesick? Well, here are some tips that have gotten me through my times when I miss Sweden or Italy.

  1. Facetime a friend from the place you miss- Sometimes, you just need to talk to someone from the place you miss to tell yourself that you’re still close, just not in distance
  2. SNAPCHAT- This is my saviour! I think this is the perfect way to keep in contact just to see what your friends are doing although you aren’t with them. My go-to app!
  3. Look through old pictures- Sometimes you need a little deja vu, and I do this just to brighten up my days.
  4. Express your feelings- Let the people you miss know that you miss them/appreciate them. Also, don’t be afraid to cry or take a day just to recover from the homesickness. When I just moved to Japan, there was one day when I couldn’t go to school since I missed Italy so bad.
  5. Find things you enjoy in place you’re in- Try to distract yourself by what is great about the place you’re in

These were just my tips that I could come up with, but I am sure there are so many more out there. We all go through a time when we are a little homesick, or miss a place or someone, but eventually you get through. Perseverance is everything.

Favorite Apps!

IMG_6045

Hi! Today I will be writing a simple post about my favorite apps, to give you all some inspirations:-)

  • Pokemon GO- Catch pokemons in real life!!!
  • Omni- Get news flashes on the go:-)
  • Hollaback!- Seeing maps of where other people have been harassed verbally or physically to see unsafe streets.
  • DailyHoroscope- Whats my horoscope for the day? PS. I’m a libra:-)
  • Timetable- Writing down your school schedule on your phone, perfect for back to school.
  • Mustachio- This is just hilarious, and Jenna Marbles actually posted a video with this app in it. Download it and you will understand what it is;-)
  • I’ve Never- I played this a lot in the car with my friends in Mallorca because it’s great when you have nothing to do in the car.

That is all of my favorite apps, and you may notice none of them are typical social media apps because I already know everyone almost loves those apps. Therefore, here are some you may not have known about.

How To Stay Healthy

IMG_5859IMG_5860

So obviously I am not the healthiest person, but I do enjoy “being healthy”. I decided to share some of my tips and tricks for staying healthy.

  1. Instead of eating rice, try quinoa- This is a much healthier choice but it tastes alike
  2. When you get a craving for bread, eat wheat crispbread (like picture above)- This is quite healthy, but delicious
  3. After school, try going for a run, or possibly just cardio- This will give you a refreshed feeling afterwards
  4. Make a smoothie for breakfast or snack (frozen berries and yoghurt smoothie in picture above)- Delicious and healthy
  5. Listen to music that makes you want to dance while running/exercising- This will help you get moving, and I personally like dancing while running
  6. Do squats when you go up the elevator- I do this when I am alone in the elevator, and after a while, you see a difference
  7. If you live close to work/school, exercise to get there- I personally bike to school and from school everyday
  8. Do 30 sit-ups when you find yourself bored- While you watch a tv show in bed or something, you might as well exercise
  9. Try cutting down on meats- I may be bias, but according to Chris Woolston, “Harvard researchers found that people who ate three ounces of red meat every day were about 13 percent more likely to die—often from heart disease or cancer.”
  10. Detox water- Have a water bottle, and fill it with water and other fruits (I use lime, lemon, and cucumber)
  11. Waking up at the same or around the same time each morning- This has been proved to help become thinner/healthier
  12. Swap all sugary drinks to healthier options- Possibly sparkling water, or flavoured water
  13. Use facial masks+toner- Staying healthy is also about keeping your skin healthy, so I recommend this
  14. Have fun with it- Just get out and move, and don’t keep yourself from eating different things which you crave because eventually, you will just binge eat it.

I hope you enjoyed reading these tips, and possibly using some of them in your life. I know they have helped me, so I hope they may help you to. Don’t forget to stay healthy!

Just A Girl?

IMG_5558IMG_5549IMG_5537

Hi, I’m Gry, and I am a feminist. Did that affect your point of view of me? Since I said I was a feminist, you may have started to already create many stereotypical assumptions about me. No, I am not a man-hater, and no I don’t think women are better than men. I simply believe in the notion that women are equal to men. We are all human so why should our gender define what we are worth? There are so many reasons I think our society needs a change to create equality.

One of the biggest issues is the pay gap. Woohoo, who doesn’t enjoy the pay gap (please note sarcasm)? For every dollar a man earns, a woman earns 78 cents. WOW! This means it takes 15 months for women to earn the same as a man does in 12 months. This makes me worry for my future, and for so many other’s future. No matter how hard women work, they will be paid less because “they are just women”. The only job that has reported that they pay the same for both men and women is speech pathology. That’s one in like one million jobs. That is so mind-blowing to me.

Dress code. My school has this crazy obsession with the dress code. The rules are; no showing bra straps, shorts/skirts/dresses need to be longer than what your hands reach, and the shirts need to have a thicker sleeve than four of your fingers. These rules target women specifically more than men, and it is telling them to be ashamed of their bodies. It demonstrates the idea that all of our bodies are simply for others to look at, also known as objectification of bodies. Not only is this insulting to the students who are being dress coded due to “being a distraction” but it is also insulting to the people who the teachers say are being distracted because they are saying that they aren’t controlled enough. Also, saying that student’s skin is distracting more people than pulling a student out of class to make them change. I don’t know about you, but I have never heard anyone say, “I couldn’t concentrate during that assignment in class because all I could see was _______ shoulders/bra straps/legs.” Overall, sexualizing bodies, mainly women’s because that’s who most people sexualize.

Let’s talk sexual assault now. According to facts.randomhistory, “Globally, about 1 in 3 women will be beaten or raped in her lifetime,” (2014). This indicates that if I have a friend group of three girls, one of us will be raped or beaten in our life. This is a very high amount of women who get beaten or raped, but I guess it doesn’t matter because “she was provoking the assaulter” (please note sarcasm). According to the U.N., 99.3% of women and girls in Egypt have been subjected to sexual harassment. Can you believe that? I sure can’t. The Guardian once stated, “Approximately 1.2 million children worldwide are victims of human trafficking, and over 80% are girls,”(2013). When most people found out about this, their question was, “What were they wearing?” This is what I can’t wrap my head around; why would it matter if someone was wearing a low cut shirt or a turtleneck? It won’t stop the assault from happening, so why blame the clothing of the victim. This teaches the victim that it is their fault, which is totally untrue. I am not saying that only women are victims because in fact, about 9% of sexual assault victims are men. This is still super serious. Every eight minutes, Child Protective Service responds to a report of sexual abuse from any gender. With that in mind, there are still so many sexual assaults that go unreported. They may go unreported for many reasons but one is because “93% of juvenile sexual assault victims know their attacker,” (U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistic, 2000). So, sexual assault is quite serious if you weren’t aware of it before.

This may be a long rant, but I felt like our society needed a change. Instead of making women work harder, or show less skin, what if we actually made a change in our society. What would happen if women and men would earn the same amount? Or if assaulters would stop assaulting? I know it may not be easy for them because of some strange reason, but at least knowing that they are trying to stop would be relieving. I want to be able to walk home at night without having to hold my keys between my fingers in case someone tries following me. I don’t want to have to run if I see a man walking behind me because he “could” be an assaulter. I am sorry if this is not the kind of post I usually make, but I felt like I needed to step up about the rights that we all deserve.

XOXO,

G

10 Books You NEED To Read

Okay, you may not know this about me, but I actually like reading… a lot. However, it has to be a great book which I can in some shape or form, relate to at least one character so I can learn. I find myself interested in a lot of books with a strong female lead, or at least involved in the book somewhere. I hope you guys like reading to, and if you don’t, maybe I can persuade you into liking reading if you read these 10 books.

  1. Not That Kind Of Girl by Lena Dunham- Great book with short stories from Lena Dunham’s life, and super inspirational.
  2. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky- You may have seen the movie, but the book is much better! The high school years of Charlie.
  3. Just Listen by Sarah Dessen- Such an amazing novel about a girl who never seems to get out her story, but meets a boy who always tells his story, and that can change her forever.
  4. Yes Please by Amy Poehler- Short stories from Amy’s life, and it is quite fascinating.
  5. I Hate Myselfie by Shane Dawson- Shane writes about how he grew up in high school, in a very comedic way.
  6. Looking For Alaska by John Green- Love the message of this book, and it is about a girl who loves mysteries so much that she becomes one.
  7. Grace’s Guide, The Art Of Pretending To Be A Grown Up by Grace Helbig- Hilarious guide about how to do many grown up things, and child ones.
  8. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton- Amazing book about two gangs in a town in America, and seeing the perspective of a boy in one gang.
  9. Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer- Novel from a teenage girl’s perspective when the world suddenly shuts down.
  10. Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart- Near-future dystopian New York, where everything is determined through media, and the book is written in a 40 year-old man’s perspective.

I hope you all enjoy this list and that you actually try reading some of these because I truly enjoyed them.

Japanese Beauty Products

Here is the first product, which honestly, I just thought was really cool so I bought it for more than the reason that it is Japanese, haha. I have to be honest, I didn’t expect it to work but it TOTALLY DID! Which I am so happy about since I can now make any nail polish matte. However, one consequence of this was that the layers of the nail polish ended up SO thick. I just don’t think that looks very appealing but overall I give it a 3.8/5.

YAS! Teeth whitening for $15 is actually impressive. Yes the lighting is different in the pictures, and I didn’t see a difference in my teeth to be honest. However, I got SO MANY comments from different people saying that my teeth looked whiter so I mean, it must’ve had some impact I guess. I think that if this truly worked it gets a 4/5 but if it is just an illusion, 1/5 because it is fun to apply to your teeth.

IMG_5314

I couldn’t really show a before and after picture because there is NOTHING to show! This product is really entertaining to just have since it is so unique. However, if you are aiming for a product that actually sharpens your features, then this is not the one you want to buy. I personally thought that it wasn’t hard until you did it for about 5 minutes or so, and even when you have done it that long, it doesn’t enhance any of your facial features… So I give this a 2/5 because I like the general exercise, haha.

I hope you guys enjoyed this blog post because I really enjoyed trying these products! Anyways, hope you have a great day!

G
