Bali

I am going here for a family vacation in October to celebrate my brothers, and my birthdays! I am super excited since it’s been so long since last time we all went somewhere new for a vacation since we all have different schedules. The pictures above are of the villa in which we will be staying, and I am so excited to be there since, it looks beautiful! There will definitely come a video of my trip there after I go.

New York

New York is a place where I have only been to once, which feels like ages ago since I was in third grade at the time. I was there for New Years with my family but one of my brothers didn’t want to go… I remember how much I loved the shopping, haha. However, I am sure I would enjoy it even more now that I know most of the shops there better. I hope to travel there soon again.

Los Angeles

The last destination is somewhere I have always wanted to go. I could totally imagine myself walking down Rodeo Drive, and just feeling relaxed. Having the beach near, and being able to hike up to gorgeous views. I have a dream of going there sometime with my friends or family, it seems so dreamy. For those of you who are American, or live there, I probably sound ridiculous but consider this all for a typical Swede’s viewpoint… There is nothing better than a place where it is hot, haha (at least for me).

Picnic Do’s and Don’t’s

img_6037img_6038img_6040img_6036

Hey guys!

One thing I love about Sweden is how simple life can be when it comes to organizing what to do. Just grabbing a picnic and sitting in a park, and that is what I really miss here in Japan. Well, many countries have the easy accessibility to a park to have picnic by without tons of people there, so I thought I would share some ideas of what to bring, and Do’s and Don’t’s.

Picnic Favorites:

  • Sandwich
  • Pasta salad
  • Donut
  • Cookies
  • Juice box
  • Typical summer soda

Do’s and Don’t’s

  • Do bring your friends who you can talk to
  • Don’t forget a blanket
  • Do bring dessert
  • Don’t go to a park where there are lots of people
  • Do clean up after you
  • Don’t wear your fanciest clothes
  • Do relax and just talk a bit
  • Don’t go if it’s raining (obvious kind of)

Anyways, I hope you like some of my tips although they are quite obvious. Also, have a great day, and hope you go out for a picnic sometime.

XOXO,

Hey guys!

So some of you may have noticed that I didn’t post on Thursday, and I am sorry but I was just too tired. I swear I will get better with my posts (I have said that a million times before but…) I have now started to take new pictures so I can post about new things so today, I want to show you my outfit. Airi took the pictures, and she isn’t super used to my camera so they are a little out of focus but, you get the idea of my outfit. Also, tomorrow I will be leaving for a hiking trip with my class until Friday, so my next post will be scheduled and my instagram will not be updated for these 4 days. Now, let’s get into my outfit;

Hero of War

Most of the time, I have one song constantly stuck in my head, and it usually depends on my mood, and life at the time, and I just thought I would share which one I cannot stop thinking about. “Hero of War” by Rise Against is one of those songs that I cannot get tired of. I heard it for the first time this August at my camp, and at first, I only listened to the lyrics and notes, and realized what sad message it had, but I knew that I liked that about it. I downloaded it on spotify after camp, and I haven’t stopped listening to it. In fact, I sometimes put on the karaoke and connect my mic and just sing it since I like it so much, I want to learn to sing it well. You may never have heard of this song, in which case, I want you to listen to it with an open mind before you read the rest of this, and do NOT watch the music video, it ruins your imagination. My favorite part of the song is the last chorus;

A hero of war

Is that what they see

Just medals and scars

So damn proud of me”

It clearly shows the idea that everyone has about the people who fight in the army. People who haven’t been in the army, don’t understand what those have been, have been through. Wars usually cause most people who have fought in the army to have severe physical and mental damage. This song truly describes the reality of the soldiers. It reminds me of the poem, “Dulce et Decorum est” written by Wilfred Owen during World War I, but it reached me in a much deeper level. The quote, “Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori” means “It is sweet and glorious to die for one’s country”. In the song “Hero of War”, the chorus goes;

“I’ll carry this flag

To the grave if I must

Because it’s a flag that I love

And a flag that I trust”

This demonstrates the brainwashing soldiers have been put through during training. They are taught to do anything for their country and for the greater good without question or thought. In the beginning of the song, the soldier takes pride in his boots, and his shaved head, but towards the end, he has changed his idea of how soldiers have it. Also, it ends with a repetition of the first sentence, to help audience reflect over the song, and his experience. Overall, this message is so important to everyone, and I hope this song reaches a lot more people because it is beautiful.

How to Cure Being Homesick

Homesick? Well, here are some tips that have gotten me through my times when I miss Sweden or Italy.

  1. Facetime a friend from the place you miss- Sometimes, you just need to talk to someone from the place you miss to tell yourself that you’re still close, just not in distance
  2. SNAPCHAT- This is my saviour! I think this is the perfect way to keep in contact just to see what your friends are doing although you aren’t with them. My go-to app!
  3. Look through old pictures- Sometimes you need a little deja vu, and I do this just to brighten up my days.
  4. Express your feelings- Let the people you miss know that you miss them/appreciate them. Also, don’t be afraid to cry or take a day just to recover from the homesickness. When I just moved to Japan, there was one day when I couldn’t go to school since I missed Italy so bad.
  5. Find things you enjoy in place you’re in- Try to distract yourself by what is great about the place you’re in

These were just my tips that I could come up with, but I am sure there are so many more out there. We all go through a time when we are a little homesick, or miss a place or someone, but eventually you get through. Perseverance is everything.
